Last year around November Tsogo Sun invited us (well Lelo) for “It’s Time For The Big Unveiling”of the multi-million rand refurbishment of Gold Reef City. It was a night of glitz and glamour, since I have no life partner I had gone with a friend.
By attending the event I received vouchers to utilise at Gold Reef City which included, a two day stay, entrance to Theme park rides, R100 coupon food vouchers, Site Seeing and many more… The voucher also stipulated that it is for two adults with 2 children, since I have no children and I could not bring two adults with me for the stay I opted to give away the other tickets.
We checked in Friday evening a the Theme Park hotel. I don’t know if it was me but the guards were rather unprofessional at the gate. Rules are, you park your car outside the Hotel gates (at a designated visitors parking) wait to be chauffeured to the hotel for check-in. To us that didn’t happen, we actually had to walk to the hotel gates for assistance.
The lady at the gate tried to assistance by calling on some drivers to come pick us up at the gate but the drivers were not co-operating… we were even willing to walk in rather than being driven, eventually a shuttle came, the driver explained they’re short-stuffed infact he was alternating with some other guy… we understood.
We were then driven to the reception, checked-in went to our room freshened-up and went out for supper at Barney’s… what a horrible experience it was, I mean the food. The menu was dull as in nothing appetising was being offered, I initially wanted sea-food (they didn’t have), then pasta (they didn’t have)… I seldom (to never) go for red meat (at eat-out places…) I could only get trotters which I couldn’t finish… there were cats all around us. I just couldn’t understand the cats, I’m a lover of pets but I believe not in a public eat-out place… or ndithetha ezomqala?
Those that know and follow me on social media would know that I have taken a liking on food. I don’t necessarily love food but when I eat out at restaurants I would want to eat GOOD food… flavours are of paramount to me.
Anyways after dinner we asked to be taken to the casino, to gamble our few pennies, LOL. I must say my date enjoyed the gambling, we hopped from one machine to the next. We would win on some and on some lose, in the end we lost the R200.00 we came with.
By the time we were done gambling it was after mid-night and our bodies were calling for umbede. We went to the Casino reception where we asked for a shuttle, it was called to come take us to the hotel and it did.
A before and after of my breakfast.
Saturday morning, we again to Barney’s for breakfast…
I think we were expecting a better menu and that Barney’s was the most convenient eat out place for us.
We were disappointed again, their food was atrocious cutlery was dirty, even their basic egg tasted horrible, I couldn’t finish my food
After our horrible breakfast we went for ama-rides which were fun;
queuing up for rides, the boat ride was fun.
We went to the farms;
I enjoyed reading these, educational stuff cool for kids.
We carted.
My date was really scared of the horse.
We went to a 4D theatre and I can tell you now that’s not for me, I mean you somehow get to experience some of the things the main characters (on tv) that are going through. like if the main character gets splashed on with water, you in your seat will get a splash of water on your face as well. If the main character falls off or rides a horse your chair will also emulate the movement… That is just awesome for kids shem, Lolo and other bloggers with kids here’s my recommendation.
We went for tenpin bowling…that was fun, I was happy to learn bowling with my date.We ended our day at the movies and we were nothing but exhausted.
For God lovers, there’s a Chapel for you.
My date and I had a ball of fun! regardless of the eats.
Nokuthula Nunge and Zolani Masombuka.
Beautiful spacious rooms.
Thank you Tsogo Sun, Gold Reef City for the experience.
