Happy Monday JC Fam! Hope you had a good weekend… It’s Monday and time to catch up on some of the stories that made me go Mmmh…
Mandoza is attempting a comeback with a new album partnered with a reality show on etv.
Having watched Rolling With Kelly Khumalo and without having read any official release, I can safely assume that Mandoza’s “Rolling With” will be nothing more than him trying to reclaim his (long gone) position in the industry. Him reuniting with producer Gabi le Roux (pictured above, via Mandoza’s twitter) and trying to rebuild his image after all the negative publicity he had with the accident & everything. Hope there’s more ….
One of the most talked about things this week is definitely ANN7, the new 24 hour News channel owned by the Guptas. TJO bathong… Never have I see the Twitter community so united. United in dissing the channel and agreeing on how shoddy it all was. Well I did not see it, I only watched about 10 minutes of Arthur’s show… he was interviewing Oskido and as the tweets alleged, the production wasn’t all that great, there was an echo and Oskido made things super awkward by looking at the camera when responding to questions. Hayi ke.
It was interesting watching Arthur as an interviewer. I think it will make things easy for him that he knows and is probably friends with most of the people he’ll be interviewing… but there is a long way to go in terms of handling the interviews. With the bit I saw from Oskido’s interview, I get the impression he is going to be asking the tough questions, we want to hear, but when he did ask Oskido questions, there was no flow. This is something that can be worked on luckily and he has a personality so given a good production team, the show could get better.
As for the news and other shows, lol I watched a video on Youtube for a show called Game On presented by two girls who should NEVER ever see a TV camera. The video has since been removed from Youtube because the Guptas don’t play… there were some copyright what what that got all the ANN7 vids taken off the video streaming site.
People are even taking bets that the Channel will be taken off air because it’s so worse than Community TV stations. Eish, I hope they will get better… ke sono.
One of the best things I heard last week was that Kenny Kunene has relinquished his leadership position in the EFF due to his past. He is still a member, but no longer their Head of Campaigns, Mobilisation and Special Projects.
The now subdued Kenny has apparently not confirmed this, and rather said he quit coz he’s pursuing other things (via CityPress) but whatever the reason, thank goodness. For me all these things he is famous for were the biggest turn off when it comes to EFF and taking them seriously. Not Malema’s financial woes… but Kenny’s stories. This was the right move if they are trying to win the mamas and papas.
On the Mamas and Papas note…
Kenny’s spokesperson friend Gayton McKenzie tweeted this picture in an attempt to rubbish the Sunday Sun story that his daughter was impregnated by one of his friends.
If you remember 2 weeks ago Sunday Sun came out with the story, Kenny branded them liars, the week after they released a picture of the pregnant girl and stood by their story and this week Oom Kenny is saying “yes she’s pregnant but here is the father, a young boy not one of my buddies.”
Well… this is really for those who care…
In interesting news…
I read Andile Mngxitama’s Why I Didn’t Join Agang article and it is interesting. I’d love for someone to write a “Why I Didn’t Join EFF” article. Anyone?

AFTER 9!
I did not catch the Premiere of the 2nd season but apparently After 9, is back on SABC 1. In 2007 when it first aired, the show was groundbreaking, it got tongues wagging, and for SA, it was the first time we really got to see/know the difficulty some of our brothers in the closet go through. It touched us man, and we begged and begged for the SABC to bring it back. Finally, 6 years later, after tons and tons of gay characters on our TV screens, After Nine is back and I’m asking, “Isn’t it a little too late?”
in 2013, there is nothing new about a gay man who struggles with having to hide his sexuality, anymore so is there more? Because that alone will not fly…
Did you guys watch the premiere? What did we miss?
In 2007 I did an interview with the then co-producer of After 9, Lesego Majatladi, it was really a great interview. Even if I have to say so myself. You can read it HERE
