Sorry for the delay but better late than never right? A few weeks ago I attend the DNA Africa Launch in the Maboneng Precinct partnered with Jameson you know it was a night of fashion and whiskey.
DNA is an organisation aimed at aiding local designers promote locally manufactured designs and naturing more local talent. The organisation is headed by Morwick Pietersen and Geneve Kroutz, this is a step in the right direction in terms of helping local designers grow and will be also a good initiative to build up the local fashion stake in the economy. For more information on the organisation visit www.dnaafrica.co.za
Held on a wednesday night I did not see as much known faces as I thought there would be but here are some people that attended the event and more importantly the designs on showcase.
The designs:
Pretty girl but would I buy that dress, no, only because she’s not selling it.
Yeah this girl had a wardrobe malfunction, SIGH, another story for another day.
I thought of Camagwini when I saw this, is she back from the dead anyways?
This creation made me want to sing Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance
I love the print of this material too bad we couldn’t get a better shot, Im a scarf collector so this just had to be here, bear with me.
I will say though, one let down about this event were the models, they were not “model like” not in aesthetics per se but they just didn’t look like they were selling the garments. If I was a buyer in the crowd I probably would have thought they were just nicely dressed folk walking around. One of the designers showcasing that night was Liz Ogumbo, Oh how I love her work.
The attendees:
Founder Morwick Pietersen and crap I forgot her name, she was so sweet. Maar that mohawk beret gave me LIFE.
Miss Ranaka doing the TV rounds, I kind of fell for her that night.
Bahle abantwana bagezile, Thango and Zizo (who was there to work, Seli cues theme song)
African chic
Beauty and the Twins
That mkhaba and afro gave me all my Shambala days back.
The guy in the middle is from Zone 14 right?
I’m not a beanie man but I would so rock this, so sick
To the cab driver who denied that I left my goodie bag in his cab, there’s a special place for people like you at Park Station.
Your Thoughts?
