Our soap stars seem to be living lives filled with way more drama than those of the characters they portray on television. If “popular magazine” hadn’t exhausted their quota for soap stars on their cover, I’m sure they would be having a field day. So what is the drama surrounding our soap stars?

Here’s a quick rundown.

Tongues have been waggling due to the abrupt departure of Zikhona Sodlaka from Muvhango. The allegations that have been making the rounds about this story is that bra Duma tried to hit on her. She has denied that there is anything sinister about her departure from the soapie. Hmmm… While still on Muvhango, alumni Lerato Moloi, who is separated from her husband Collen Mashawana, is also in the news. It is alleged that her friend Zanele Zikalala has been “comforting” Collen since they split. It is also alleged that she is the reason behind their split. It seems like no one can be trusted these days if your friends can steel your hubby from right under your nose. What is worse is that brother-man isn’t even a looker. His bank account probably is.

Generations alumni Sonia Sedibe also made it to the papers. Her story is not as serious though. After joining in on a twitter debate about natural hair vs weaves (a tired topic), she and radio DJ Zama Dube ended up twarring. I actually feel silly for writing about this. People who choose to wear their hair naturally should stop trying to police those who don’t. Instead they should advocate for healthy hair and natural hair doesn’t always equate to healthy hair.

Melusi Yeni is also said to be having drama. Apparently the actor was fired for sloppy work and Generations’ producers are annoyed with him. I honestly don’t know what to make of this story. I feel like Melusi was a brilliant actor before he joined Generations and if there is anyone to blame for sloppy work from his side, it is the writers or those exact producers. Generations has killed a great actor. Fortunately he is leaving the soapie. I hope that he will get a role where he will be able to revive his career.

Another Generations actor who is in the papers is Anga Makhubalo. The report says that Anga was raised by his stepfather just like the character he plays on the soapie. The source alleges that Anga knows his real father despite growing up without him. What is interesting though, is that the man who raised Anga is a former Generations actor and is currently the director of the soapie. They say Anga got the role legitimately. Hmmm…

I like round numbers so I’ll leave it at these five stories. What I do want to add however, is that if I was a writer on these soapies (Hey there Phathu boo) I would incorporate some of these personal into the storyline.

What are your thoughts on these stories on our soap stars’ personal lives?
