I’m not sure how familiar you are with Woody Allen’s personal life but if you are you will find this quite intriguing. Film maker extraordinaire, Woody was accused of molesting his ex-partner’s (actress & former muse Mia Farrow) adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow when she was just 7 years old way back in the early 90′s. Woody was never convicted although there was “probable cause” and after the court gave Mia sole custody of all their children including their only biological son, Ronan Farrow, she decided not to continue with the trial to protect Dylan from further trauma. You know how these legal battles can get nasty.Woody went on to marry one of Mia’s adoptive daughter’s Soon-Yi whom he allegedly started sleeping with when she was 17 or 19. (side-eye).
Soon-Yi & Woody Allen
Fast-forward 20 years after years the ordeal and silence from Dylan who went on to assume a different name and get off the radar, she is fighting back. She penned an open letter to the public after Woody has been selected to be one of the celebrated artists at this years Oscars. In the letter she asks the public if people like Allen (molesters) should be celebrated. She even goes as far as to ask some actors who have worked with Woody Allen what they would have done if it was their child (Cate Blanchett), or them (Emma Stone). Deep right?
I get what she means and where she is coming from, however shouldn’t we judge an artists body of work purely on that, talent or should we also judge them on moral acumen? That’s a very grey area. I am a Woody Allen fan, I think he is brilliant, genius even but I also think he is a creep. Does he deserve to be honoured or celebrated by Hollywood for his work? YES, he has an incredible body of work. Some of his movies have inspired young Hollywood and have become iconic, like Annie Hall. I will not take that away from him. However it is also tricky to say, yeah, whatever lets celebrate him, lets call him a legend when there is a side of this man that has taken away from some people.
Some people think that because he was not trialed and found guilty therefore he is not. Innocent until proven guilty right? But there is something disgusting about a man who would have sex with his longtime girlfriend’s daughter adopted or not. When you date someone don’t the kids become yours too? Regardless of if they have their own daddy, you are with their mother so you are their father in some way. That whole “we fell in love” thing is creepy but then again that’s just me. Also Woody has a reputation of like under-age girls so the accusation doesn’t seem far-fetched.
Dylan & Mia Farrow
Mia Farrow, Dylan’s mother , Woody’s ex has been accused of planting the incident in her daughters head to get back at her ex boyfriend. I don’t think there is any mother that will do that to a child that they call their own. Granted there are crazies out there but what would she gain from scarring her own daughter for life? Highly unlikely but then again that is my opinion.
As a Woody fan I have noticed that many of his films have a common theme, distorted moral acumen and maybe that’s why they are good because it is something that he knows, and I mean KNOWS. After-all who knows blood and gore better than an axe murderer?
PS: Another scandal this family has is the paternity of Mia and Woody’s biological son, Ronan who changed it from his birth name, Satchel. LOL even I would have changed being called Satchel for the rest of my life, TJO! Mia was doubling between Woody Allen and Frank Sinatra just before Ronan was born and she has said that Ronan MIGHT actually be Frank Sinatra’s son. Personally the picture below proves he is Frank Sinatra’s son, no contest. The blue eyes, the lips, you can’t look exactly like your mother’s ex and not be his son. Just saying!Damn talk about a messy families (we all have those) and this side of the world we have the Mandela’s and their Makaziwe.
