On My Spiritual Corner this week I’d like to share the amazing words I heard at church – Hope Restoration Ministries – yesterday. I’ve missed church in the last 3 weeks, coz I was out of town so I was really “hungry” when I went yesterday and boy, oh boy, was it amazing!!
The Guest Pastor was Dr Dave Burrows from the Bahamas. Dr Dave leads Youth Alive, which is a subsidiary of Bahamas Faith Ministries Group of Companies. If you know Dr Myles Munroe, that’s his organisation. So Dr Dave is involved in revolutionising how young people see church and Christianity and that came across heavily in his sermon. He kicked off by telling us what a troublesome kid he was he growing up and his life of drugs.
“I moved from being a dope dealer to being a hope dealer”
That had me paying attention.
The title of his message was “Living In Two Worlds: Dual Citizenship.”
Basically the title was about how we live on earth, which is not controlled by God, yet we have to live according to God’s word.
My notes from the service:
We live in a world of two kingdoms.
- This world’s system is not designed for you to prosper
- We work for the devil but do not realise that he doesn’t pay very well. The wages of sin is death.
- Jesus has a good salary, his minimum wages is eternal life
- The devil never sells you what you are gonna get
- He sells you drugs but never tells you about addiction, Sells you sex but does not tell you about HIV/Aids/ Pregnancy.
Scripture: Col 1:12 – 14
Sometimes we don’t realize when we’ve been rescued Col 1:13
- The philosophy of the world is “Get rich or die trying” – It’s about taking, about you, not giving consideration or caring about others.
- We are made of God’s image but we are living in the image of D.O.G. We greet each with “Hey Dogg”… We have all sorts of dogs, Snoop Dog, Nate Dogg, Bow Wow, Pit Bull..
- The devil wants you to have things before you should have them. Sex is something that can wait. If you get married at 25 and die at 75 you get 50 years of free sex.
- You are special, god has a great design for your life. God wants a bright future for you.
- We used to have parents now we have baby mamas and baby daddies
- We used to have praying mothers now we have preying mothers. ( I think he was referring to Sugar Mama/Ben 10s)

This world is not controlled by God
Ep 2:2-5
- Your sinful nature will cause you to do things you aren’t qualified to do
- You come alive when you get connected to God. When I got connected to God, my talents started to flourish because now I was connected to the source.
- We can’t leave the world but we are told not to become like the world.
- You are different – a foreigner
- Many of us try to live by the goals of this world sexy vs beautiful (hot, sexy, materialistic), You must recognize who you are, you reflect the philosophy of another world.
1 John 2:15 – 17
The devil always tells you to overdose on things… have more than 1 woman, more than 1 car, etc.
How To Live God’s Philosophy In This World
- Know what the kingdom is all about. It’s about Good news. We have equated serving God with not having fun. Jesus reflected good news. The church sometimes condemns the world. The world is looking for good news not condemnation. Jesus was a cool dude .
- Be in the world but not of it. (Don’t become, don’t be conformed). Renew, remind, rewind. Never let the devil dictate to you what to do with your life. Someone asked “Why does the devil have all the good music”. The devil never created music. Let’s turn the fun around. Gave a remix of DJ Khaled’s All I Do Is Win with something like… ”All we do is win win win no matter what, coz we got God on our side , he lifts us up & we stay there!”
- Enjoy the world but don’t love it - Use the world for your benefit
- Take orders from headquarters. – We may be here but we should take instructions from above.
- Understand your calling - Ambassador , diplomat, keeping customs from your home country
- Be aware of your mission - Understand why you are here. Occupy , rule, run things in your environment , your territory. So when you are here – put up your home flag! 2 Corinthians 5:20
- Know your rights & rules - You have a right to prosper and have a good life. Never accept less.
- Know what’s best for you – Recognize assets vs liabilities. Recognize value. People must come into your life to increase your value & make you better. If you’re the smartest one in the group it’s time to move to another group because you aren’t learning/growing.
- Set your own agenda. Righteous Agenda – Drivers vs passengers . When you are a passenger you don’t know where the road is leading, but take charge, be the driver and in control. Don’t give free rides, people need to qualify to ride in your life.
- Represent …… Till we die. Christ 4 Life.
Apologies if I didn’t get everything right but this is the essence of what he taught. I know it’s long but I really thought it was worth sharing.
