“New: girl Tinashe has been receiving some buzz lately. I put new in quotes because she is not really a new kid on the block but I guess her single 2ON has been her most successful music effort thus far. Born Tinashe Jorgenson Kachingwe to a Zimbabwean father and Norwegian mother, the 21 year old is all set to take the music industry by storm.
The former Stunners singer already has two critically acclaimed mixtapes under her belt and is gearing up for her studio album debut release in September, aptly titled Aquarius. I am not familiar with her music but I have seen her on the small screen which is where she started. She has had a variety of good roles in TV and movies, nothing major but a good body of work nonetheless. Remember her from Six & A Half Men as Celeste Burnett? The girl whom the little guy has a crush on? Those must have been good cheques as that show was doing good during that period.
Tinashe had her TV debut performance at the BET pre-show this weekend performing her single 2ON. I like the song a very club-vibe fun song not a song I would actually sit down and listen to but I like it. The performance was a taste of whats to come from heer solo debut. I thought it was satisfactory and with time she might be great. We need more new singers to diversify this streamlined, predictable music landscape we have at the moment and I think she might be one of those girls who can be the next IT singer together with Jhene Aiko.
I am excited to hear her upcoming album which will boast features from A$AP Rocky and Future to name a few. I am also looking forward to her music videos.
I hope she does the following:
- Not rely on her looks and work hard keeping the eyes on the prize (Kween Bey’s throne LOL)
- Stays true to herself and doesn’t try to fit in with the crowd or be something that she is not.
- Make sure that she doesn’t end up like Tearra Mari and all those talented young singers who are now just reality TV stars.
- Work on her style and have fun with it . Or better yet higher a stylist. I like the cutesy tomboy look but its does get a a little boring after a while.
