The biggest EDM festival in South Africa on Saturday, Valentines Day at Nasrec.
Boasting a great line up of international DJ’s like Olivier Heldens, Armin Van Buuren, Martin Garrix Hardwell and also local favourites, DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Black Coffee and many more.
There’s quite a bit to talk about so I will start with the reason why everyone was there, music. I won’t lie I got there late afternoon (because I had convinced myself that it’s always good to be fashionably late) so I missed all the local acts. The one’s I saw were beyond exceptional, the DJ’s put everybody on rave mode, you couldn’t help but tap your feet or just move your body to the rhythm (which was fast of course). They also played my fave song, Summertime Sadness – man that was great moment.
I am convinced that DJ Hardwell is going to be my dance floor soulmate from now on. He really made me go nuts – I was dancing like I’m on the english version of Jika MaJika. Hear
The crowd was great (and wasted), mainly younger late teens and 20′s, everybody was in a good mood and ready to jol. You could have sworn tickets were being handed out for free it was packed it so ridiculous. It made the views from the back seeing people fist pumping in the air – incredible. I generally hate concerts and crowded places but that sea of beautiful, crazy, tipsy folk was glorious.
The fashions were very festival chic, think Coachella. A lot of booty shorts, chuck tailors/cow girl boots, mesh tops. The boytjies were dressed in nothing but short shorts which advertised their various underwear collections from Bear to Au (just saying). There a few cases of the older generations who were dressed to fit in….I shall stop there.
One of the things that made Ultra stand out and great was the stage, the lighting effects, the futuristic dressed girl dancers, the sound quality and the party energy. The lighting was by far the best I have seen in the country when it comes to concerts. It was big, bold and luminous – just beautiful. Also the futuristic dressed girls on the stage screen gave a lovely effect especially from a distance. One of the best things too was crowd participation, everyone waved their hands and screamed when DJ’s asked (even when they didn’t).
The not so great things were there parking for one. I think mandatory shuttles should be organised or something. Parking was a mess (at least for us). Good thing though, the security was great. A few guys were caught trying to break into cars – big ups to the security company. They were very helpful too with the whole commotion when everyone was trying to leave the venue. I was also super impressed by the bathrooms, small things count (lol) I never got to queue for the bathroom, that’s one thing I loathe about huge events, having to adjust your bladder accordingly.
Overall it was an amazing experience. Music is still bringing everyone together. It was good to be young, wild and free.
Thank you Amplicon PR for the tickets and hospitality.
Did you attend Ultra? What did you think?
