I would have done injustice to my listening pleasures to have missed Musa (Season 9 Idols Winner) sharing a stage with Bongi (Season 10 Idols runner-up). Most will know how fond I am of Bongi and how I strongly thought she deserved the Season 10 win over the other guy, but I’m not the voting masses now am  I?…

As a pre-valentines gift to myself for myself, Friday evening I drove to The Market Theatre in Newtown Johannesburg to witness Musa and Bongi’s pipes in action and I was blown away…not that i under-estimated the duo singing capabilities they slayed and left blood on the floor as evidence.

I came in late and I had no expectations I just wanted to hear good music I got exactly that. Bongi was on stage with a black sexy number, she was doing covers from Zama Jobe to the late Brenda Fassies, Alicia Keys, Anita Baker, Beyonce, Jazmine Sullivan and she closed off with her Idols single If I got you. When I listened to Bongi I felt she sounded a more like Jazmine Sullivan, There were no back-up vocalists for both Bongi and Musa which was the first for me but it all blended beautifully.

Musa didnt disappoint either, Powerfull strong voice the lad has kept me seated by the edge of my seat. I think a part of me was waiting to see if he were lip synch-ing (like most of our “artists” these days). I can’t fault him but his dress code,  bhuti really needs to appoint a stylist or he can ask me I will tell him how to dress for a minimum fee. Lol

Musa gave us covers as well as his own original songs which you can get from his album The Dream, He opened with Loyiso’s girl with out a name… I’m tempted to say he sang it better than Loyiso but I Wont.  I will say  this though, he did more than justice to the song, Bhut’ Loyiso would have been proud.

They sang Musiq’s Chocolate High as well as Maxwell’s Pretty Wings together which they slayed. Musa kept most of his covers local from Bhut’ Ringo to the late Jabu Khanyile and Marvin Gaye’s sexual healing. I can tell you everyone wanted these two upcoming stars to perform the whole night.

Mzwandile Ngobeni did a superb job as MC, he was funny ,real and I loved his take on things :)

After the show people got to Mingle with stars of the night… Saw Thembisile Ntakana and Buhle (from the Soil) giving Bongi and Musa props.

After the show I got some time to speak with our shinning stars:

Zeeba: Why No back-up vocalists?

Musa: We wanted the show to be as simple and real as we can possibly do.

Bongi: Concurred with Musa’s response

Zeeba: What are you currently working on?

Bongi: I’m working on an album but my short term goal is a single…a fusion of pop Rnb and soul

Musa: Well, I have an album out that I’m pushing #TheDream

Zeeba:How has your journey been post Idols?

Bongi: My journey neh…It’s been great, work and more work.

Musa: I would say mines has been a wonderful exciting journey that involves travelling which I’m enjoying so much.

Zeeba: Whose Idea was it to team up?

Bongi: I have always wanted to work with Musa but it was his idea for us to team up on this show.

Musa: I came up with the idea *smiles*.

Zeeba: Can we expect more of these live performances from you?

Bongi: We are hoping its not the last.

Musa: We are planning to tour around the country…

Zeeba: Now Musa did you share your winnings with Brendon?

Musa: No!

LOL, good Luck with your future endeavors

A dream night it was which made me wish I had someone with me to share the experience with.

Thank you Bongi for the invite I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

A Big Thank you to Daddy Mohlala for the photos.
