So Move Magazine reports that Atandwa Kani apparently used the lobola money that was returned to him by the Mdoda Family to buy his new woman Fikile Mthwalo an engagement ring.
This shocked a lot of people on social media, and mostly were disgusted by his actions, calling him all sorts of names. This got me really thinking…..What was he supposed to do with the money? It’s his money right?
Look, it’s not like I am taking Atandwa’s side in this whole drama because I don’t really understand what is going on myself. It’s totally complicated. But, wasn’t he supposed to touch that money at all? If yes, then until when? What if he didn’t or doesn’t have enough money but wants to make his new woman happy by putting a ring on it to secure his spot? Does it matter where the money came from? It’s not like the money is illegal. He could have used it to travel with her, wine and dine out, buy groceries to feed her etc. Looking at it, it’s still gonna be spent on the new woman somewhere somehow and no one can change that.
Maybe I’m not getting the point of how and why he was wrong, I stand to be schooled. Money is money, it comes and goes. No matter what you spend it on, okusalayo it will go.
Whether or not this story is true….My question is; As a man, is it wrong to spend that returned lobola money on your new woman? Are there conditions concerning that money?
I did say I was confused by this triangle right? Move also says Tembisa and Atandwa have been living apart since their traditional wedding. This comes after Atandwa told the world on social media that they were never married, not even traditionally, all they did was the lobola stage. Do you understand why I am confused?
To be honest, I kinda feel ‘sorry’ for Fikile. Yes they are happily in love but it comes across like they humiliated and embarrassed Tembisa intentionally. So Fikile is under pressure and has to work extra hard to maintain that relationship and to make sure it lasts, otherwise people are going to laugh, and that includes the Mdodas. I can’t say anything about Atandwa ‘working’ hard at it because from what he’s shown us, he moves on very fast and has no time for broken hearts. #MustBeNice
