Saturday Johannesburg had its turn of the Smooth Soul R&B crooner and the Dome was packed to full capacity, meaning with no seat missing an arse. The show was scheduled to start at 8 but nah our Maxwell caught on the African time thingy too quick but I doubt no-one paid attention to the time because we were kept entertained in with retro beats. The DJ kept us dancing and singing along to abo Brenda Fassie, TLC, Brandy, Biggy Smalls, 2 Pac, Slum Village (favourite) and many many more before we knew it, it was 21:00 bhulu-guthu Lungsta shows up on stage introduces Maxwell. Iyoh! and a scream-a Nkosi yam when Maxwell showed up… with all the other girls and boys of-course. The man showed in a Maroon suite, white shirt and black painted carbon shoes and golden came out when he started opening his mouth, I ran from the back seat they gave me (and other media heads) to the front so that I can see this hot-ness that is Maxwell until the security guys asked us to move back to our seats *sigh*
Paying tribute to the paragon of peace
How hot is Maxwell people?
Kneeling to Tata
Maxwell had his audience eating from his palm with his charm, sexy moves and his impeccable voice. He was engaging with the crowd and kept on thanking us for coming to see him in this tragic time. I lost count of the songs he performed and I didn’t know some songs because I only own 2 albums of the 4 he has but that didn’t stop me from enjoying each performance. He opened his set with “No-one else” which I thoroughly enjoyed with Zandile Msutwana singing our small lungs out and just being delighted to be serenaded by sweet sounds. Max had us sobbing when he paid tribute to u-Tata, he knelt and looked up as Tata’s voice took over with his forever words of wisdom, it was like a god was in the Dome. After that the show carried on, powerful is the voice that man has with a 5 piece band and two backing vocals and superb sound.
Performing “The Fire We make” with Mrs Swizz Beats
In almost 2 hours Max was done and closed the show with “pretty wings” and I rushed to where the VIP section was to get some snape’s kanti andilazanga eliwinileyo because only 5 of our celebs were willing to pose and be interviewed by V-entertainment because they did not want to be seen under the glass-influence *no names mentioned* but I forgive them because they are human and they were in mourning besides it was a Maxwell show, right.
