Although im not a mommy yet, I think I’ve babysat enough cousins, nieces and nephews to understand how much of a challenge it must be. Juggling work/school and raising a little prince or princess…y ikes, sounds like quite a task. Props to all the women that do it so effortlessly and selflessly. Especially those that are doing it on their own…
So here I will attempt to share ideas to wow the little one for their lunchbox. As schools open, I hope this is useful…
Turns out yummy mummy is an actual term..found this on urban dictionary
-yummy mummy (n)
A young, sexually attractive mother. There is an important age distinction between a yummy mummy and a MILF. Yummy mummys are younger than 30, while MILFs are older than 30.
The Lunch
1) Choose different bread
Try pitta bread, bagels, French loaf, buns, pancakes or wraps. You can fill these with anything like mince, tuna, cheese etc
2) Surprise them
Use a cookie cutter to cut their sandwiches into unexpected shapes
3) The leftovers lunch
Cook a little extra dinner the night before and save for lunch the next day. Roast chicken, pasta salad, quiche, homemade pizza slices and sausages are just a few examples that are delicious cold for lunch.
4) Make lunch together
Kids will be more likely to eat their lunch if they have had a hand in preparing it. A great idea is to lay out the sandwich or burger ingredients and have them build their own
5) Fruit salad
Chop up 4/5 different kinds of fruit and freeze. They will still be fresh by lunch tomorrow for them to have with yoghurt
6) Pastries
Store bought pastries are great for rescuing leftovers. Meats and stew can be stuffed into pastries to make delicious pies
Winter is still upon us so might as well indulge…..
Magwinya
Ingredients
- 1 kg (2 1/4 pounds) white bread flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 litre lukewarm water
- oil for deep frying
In a large bowl mix flour, sugar, salt and yeast together.
Slowly add lukewarm water and stir. Mix to form a smooth dough. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
Cover with oiled cling fling, and leave to rise for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
Heat enough vegetable oil for deep frying.
Take a piece of dough rolling into the shape and size of a tennis ball and carefully lowering it into hot oil. Deep fry six fat cakes at a time.
Allow to turn golden brown on sides by frequently turning. They are ready when floating and making puffy sound and doubled in size.
Remove from oil and drain on kitchen paper.
