A few weeks ago, Joburg folks (Actors, Script-writers, Producers, Journalist and Presenters ) were flown to a breathtaking Zimbali Lodge out in Durban to be part of Winnie Modise’s creative, a first of its kind, South African Royalty Soapie Awards.

We got to the Lodge a bit late thanks to Menzi Ngubane who took his Jozi time to get to the bus… but when we got to the Lodge, the  “lights” were still off because The Designated MC, Mr.  Felix Hlophe of Vuma FM was also late. The show had to go-on without him, Muvhango Executive Producer Mr. Duma ka-Ndlovu took over. I must say he did a stellar job for someone who was supposed to be just a guest speaker.  Mr Ndlovu was brief and on point… big ups to you sir .

The Awards:

The RSAs are not in any ways competing with the SAFTAS, infact they are different from them because their only focus is Soapies. The public will be given a chance to participate by placing their nominations in the following categories:

  • Best Actor
  • Best Actress
  • Best Villain (Male)
  • Best Villain (Female)
  • Best Supporting Actor
  • Best Supporting Actress
  • Best Newcomer
  • Best Couple

The Dignitaries (Deputy Mayor of DBN: Nomvuzo Shabala, Thokozile Xasa: Deputy Minister of Tourism and Mr. Mnguni from the Department of Arts and Culture) took to the stage applauding Winnie for her boldness and determination in bringing the Royalty Awards to Durban and they vowed to support her all the way.

By the time the last speaker took to the stage Joburg people were looking at their watches, time was running out fast… when the speeches were done people rushed off to eat then headed to the airport.

The food was nice shem, I enjoyed the food but not more than Motlatsiz (Isidingoz Sechaba) performance, the boy can sing! I was blown away.

Nomination Entries will be open on 15 April 2013 and the Awards are to take place on 02 November 2013 at the Durban ICC.
