FIVE THINGS I’M CURIOUS ABOUT!
By Lerato Tshabalala
1.
Why does Bafana Bafana continue to do so badly? Seriously, I’m so curious. We keep changing coaches, players, captains, etc, but still, it all amounts to naught. When Madiba was alive and well the boys lived to impress him, now they don’t care. Maybe they need more encouragement from the leadership and the nation? Angazi.
2.
I’m curious about all these fake Christian Louboutins and Louis Vilakazi’s floating all over Instagram. We all know some of you don’t even have the cash to buy yourself a seafood platter at Pigalle, how then you would be able to buy shoes worth R20 000 is beyond me. But maybe I just don’t appreciate the artistry of a genuine fake.
3.
I’m curious about why there are so few – if any – black publishers or general managers at the big media houses in South Africa. I’m amazed that after all these years, black publications still have white publishers who have no idea about the nuances of the audiences they’re talking to. Do you mean to tell me after all these years there are no senior black professionals in the media space who are qualified? I’m perplexed.
4.
I can’t express how curious I am about why dating is so difficult in Jwanesbag! And I know I’m not alone in this. So many people, so much money, so many events but so many single people. Particularly women. Joburg is the biggest metropolis in Africa, we should all be with someone. What do we need to do? Seriously, we need a singles bosberaad for this.
5.
I’m curious why we all have to be sexy. When I was younger we had Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, along with the Lil Kim’s and Foxy Browns. It was okay to be a tomboy, we’re not all meant to be sex kittens. My heart goes out to these young girls who feel under pressure to be Nicki Minaj or Beyonce. When you’re young you don’t always know how to handle your body. Wait on the sexy. It’s better when you’re older.
